Robert O'Connor is a painter based in Hobart, Tasmania.

His practice is grounded in painting and an ongoing investigation of how images, materials and meanings change through translation and combination.

Through various media, his work explores ambiology — a logic in which ambiguity becomes a generative condition within visual culture.

O'Connor's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including projects in Paris, New York, Chile and Australia. He was the winner of the 2020 Glover Prize and has been a finalist in the Glover, Kilgour, Percival and McGivern Prizes.
